What are pink diamonds? Pink diamonds are natural diamonds that exhibit shades of pink in varius degrees. Diamonds that are pink in color are more rare and valuable than clear or "white" diamonds. In recent years colored diamonds, especially pink diamonds, have become highly desirable among diamond wearers. With white or clear diamonds, the lack of color and impurities increases the value. Fancy colored diamonds are in a class of their own---- the intensity of color, more than clarity, determines the value of fancy diamonds.
Natural Pink Diamonds occur in shades ranging from the palest of blush pink to deep, rose red hues. Many of the fancy pinks are mined in Australia, where a large deposit of diamonds with a pink color was uncovered. While pink diamonds have been available before, the pinks available today are larger and have more vivid color.
Pink diamonds are popular for all age groups! They have gained popularity among stars and celebrities as engagement rings and anniversary bands. They make wonderful gifts to young girls as graduation or birthday presents. New moms also receive pink diamonds to celebrate the birth of a new girl! Anyone that likes pink, and pink is HOT, will love pink diamonds! Each pink diamond is a rarity and a truly exceptional gift to give or receive!
What Causes Fancy Pink Diamonds?
Diamonds actually come in all colors, and the colors are caused by impurities in the carbon molecules from which the diamonds were formed. Nitrogen causes yellow diamonds. Blue diamonds are caused by boron and are actually semi-conductors. Green diamonds are caused by radiation (such as exposure to radioactive materials in the kimberlite pipe where they were formed). Black diamonds are casued by the inclusion of graphite. Grey diamonds are caused by hydrogen. The exact impurity that leads to fancy pink diamonds is still a subject of research.
How can we offer such rare diamonds at such fabulous prices? Fancy colored diamonds are judged by clarity, cut, color, and carat weight just as white diamonds are. The difference between evaluating fancy diamonds and clear diamonds is that the level of color can increase value, and clarity is not as much of an issue as the color of the fancy diamond becomes deeper. While clear diamonds are judged by their colorlessness, the opposite is true for fancy diamonds. The same does hold true for carat size-- the value of the diamond increases exponentially as the size increases. A ring with 1 carat of pink diamonds (10 diamonds that are .10ct each) will be less expensive the a 1 carat ring with just 1 (1carat) pink diamond. Even though the carat weight is the same, the larger the individual diamond the higher the price. **Information gathered from various reputable sources online and offline. |
